More than 15 law enforcement agents searched high and low for an armed man last Thursday morning near the Martinville community.
Officers captured the suspect around 11 a.m. after he kept agents busy for more than two hours searching main roads, dirt roads and wooded areas in a three-mile radius. Following his capture, the suspect, who was later identified as 27-year-old Timothy Bailey of Atmore, was transported to Atmore Community Hospital for evaluation for scratches and drinking creek water, according to Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith. Bailey gave himself up on a dirt road where officials were searching after persuasion from his mother and Smith.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Bailey broke into his father's home, stole several guns and fled the scenes with a handgun.
Bailey was later charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. He was held in the Escambia County jail pending his bond hearing earlier this week.
Deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Poarch Police Department and the Alabama State Troopers Office assisted in the search. The dog tracking team from Holman Prison was also called to the scene and a search helicopter was used.
No one was injured during the search.
