WILMER – Steven Rayford Smith, died unexpectedly at his home in Wilmer on Oct. 24, 2008.
Steven was born on Oct. 24, 1960 in Tuscon, Arizona.
His paternal grandparents, Ernest Benjamin and Ila Estelle (Grissett) Smith of Escambia County, Ala. and his maternal grandparents, Charles Morse and Evelyn Otillie (Schmidt) Condron, of Tuscon, Ariz. preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Parker Smith of Wilmer; his sons, Samuel Wright Smith and Daniel Steven Smith, both of Wichita, Kan; daughters, Karli and Chloe Dixon, both of Wilmer; his parents, Rayford and Carolyn Condron Smith, of Wilmer; his sister, Susan “Sissy” Smith Beam and nephews, Christopher Joseph LeNoir, John Robert Beam and Nicholas Alan Beam, all of Wilmer and a special aunt, Marjorie Louise Griffin, of Tuscon, Ariz, as well as several other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Steve grew up in a military family, living in Alabama, Colorado, West Germany, Georgia, North Carolina, Utah, and Arizona. In 1978, he graduated from John Shaw High School in Mobile and subsequently entered the College of Business and Management Studies at the University of South Alabama, where he received a bachelor’s degree in finance. Later, he received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama College of Nursing.
Since graduation, he has been employed at the University of South Alabama Medical Center and Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Miss. as a registered nurse. Steven’s remains will be interred at East Lawn Palms Gardens, in Tucson, Ariz.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile.
