Atmore City Councilmen take Oath of Office

Chris Walker officially became a member of the Atmore City Council as Circuit Judge Bert Rice swore him into office Monday evening before family and friends.
Walker said he looks forward to the “challenges” and the “learning experiences” that will be afforded to him as a member of the council.
Walker takes over District 3 following a two-term stint by Louie Turner, III. Turner opted not to run for re-election.
Walker added that he never considered running for public office until he became a father and realized the importance of a stable system that works for the betterment of the community.
Walker was also put in charge of the fire department and cemetery committees at the special organizational meeting.
Incumbents mayor Howard Shell and council members Webb Nall, Eldred Pritchett, John Garrard and Jim Staff also took the Oath of Office Monday evening.
Nall was put in charge of the park &recreation department and education committees, Pritchett is to oversee the street department and beautification department committees, Garrard will work with the library and finance committees and Staff will oversee the police department and airport committees.
