Northview’s Chiefs battled hard Friday night in Bratt, Fla. against the South Walton Seahawks but fell hard to their opponents 31-0.
The Chiefs (2-7, 1-3) lost the first of a two game stretch where opponents visit Northview as they are coming close to the end of their season.
The Chiefs did not get pushed around by the Seahawks and fought hard all four quarters, but could not put any long drives together to move the ball down field.
Chiefs head coach Cody Keene said his team lost to a good football team that proved to be the best at Northview Friday night.
Freshman quarterback Brandon Sheets started his first game of the season and completed 5-of18 passes for 69 yards.
Keene said Sheets did a good job for being such a young player put against a tough opponent.
Sheets completed the majority of his passes to junior wide receiver Chris Sheets. Sheets caught three passes 29 yards. Senior Shakel Holmes also hauled in a pass for 23 yards.
Junior running back Jeremy Jackson led the Chiefs in rushing with four carries for 33 yards.
Keene said that the offense just could not spread the ball around the field. He added that penalties hurt the team’s movement when yards were gained.
While the Seahawks hung 31 points on the scoreboard, the Northview defense was able to stop the Seahawks and forced four punts. Sophomore defensive lineman was a leader for the defense and recorded a huge sack, on a drive where the Seahawks had to settle for a field goal.
Keene said his defense did a good job stopping the Seahawks at certain parts of the game.
Next week, the Chiefs host West Florida High School of Advanced Technology to close out the season in Bratt, Fla.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
