Lady Blue Devils athletes have a new weight room located in the women’s locker room in the gymnasium at Escambia County High School.
The weight room was completed on Monday with four stations being placed in the locker room with padding on the floors.
Lady Blue Devils volleyball coach Sarah Watkins said the idea came about when the football team began renovating the field house.
The four weight stations are older models that have been used in the field house before, but are still in good condition and working order.
Watkins said she the stations the girls have should get the job done, but she added that she would like to see additions made to the weight room over time.
Weight training has become important over recent years to males and females, as athletes are getting faster and stronger.
Watkins said female strength training has only become important in the last few years.
Coach Robert Wilkerson is putting the program for the female athletes together.
Watkins said Wilkerson is an expert on strength training and should have a good regiment set up for all Lady Blue Devils.
