The Chiefs of Northview dropped their opening night game 75-55 to the Flomaton Hurricanes last Thursday in Flomaton.
Northview (0-1, 0-0) played their first game of the season with several players just coming off of the football season, according to head coach Lorenzo Jones.
Jones said the team had not practiced with each other very much and was just getting used to each other.
Junior Aaron Bellamy led the Chiefs with 18 points, while pulling down four rebounds, grabbing a steal and posting one assist.
Sophomore Colton Sims was solid rebounding the ball for Northview grabbing nine. Sims also had 12 points, two assists and one steal.
Jones said Bellamy and Sims played well for the Chiefs and gave solid performances that could continue throughout the year.
Rebounding was a strong point for the Chiefs, as they picked up 36 rebounds against the Hurricanes.
Senior Jaqus Zeft followed Sims’ nine rebounds with five rebounds of his own, and posted two points and one steal.
Senior Kevin Cottrell was the other high rebounder for the Chiefs picking up four, while senior Oliver Ard pulled down three. Cottrell also had three points.
Jones said the rebounding by the Chiefs was the most impressing thing about the game.
Senior Jody Levins scored five points for the Chiefs, and recorded three steals, two assists and one rebound. Sophomore Lance Bushaw had six points on the night with one assist.
Senior Luke Killam scored two points for Northview and picked up two rebounds. Senior Brad Foster grabbed two rebounds, one assist and picked off one steal for the Chiefs.
Senior Jay Sharpless scored five points and got one board. Sophomore Dabney Longhorne score two points and nabbed two rebounds for Northview, while senior Jay Jackson scored two points.
Jones said the Chiefs are trying to find their game again, while learning to play with each other in practice. He added that he hopes the team is more prepared for their next opponent.
The Chiefs next game is on Dec. 1 at home against Atmore.
