CENTURY, Fla. - Rev. Wallace Glen Reid, 73, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 in Century, Fla.
Rev. Reid was a native and lifelong resident of Century, Fla. He owned and operated Reid’s Service Center and Gas Station in Century for 17 years and was the founder and pastor of the Gospel Light Temple Church for 31 years.
His parents, Glen Reid and Claudia Gilmore Beauchamp; a sister, Thelma Reid and a grandson, Christopher Bell, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Mattie Bush Reid of Century, Fla.; four sons, Ricky Pritchett of Mobile, Joseph Reid and Lonnie Purvis, both of Century, Fla. and Glen Reid of Bluff Springs, Fla.; eight daughters, Claudia Tuberville of Mobile, Joy Simpson and Margaret Reid, both of Century, Fla., Regina Purvis of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Elaine Purvis of Pensacola, Fla, Tammy Hodges of Cantonment, Fla., Robin Salter of Flomaton and Amanda Merritt of Blue Springs; 26 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; three brothers, Douglas Reid of Flomaton, Larry Reid of Barrineau Park, Fla. and Ralph Reid of Pace, Fla. and five sisters, Glenda Peacock of Brandon, Fla., Peggy Clemans of Lakeland, Fla.; Shelia Wooten of Molino, Fla., Sherry Majors of Cottage Hill, Fla. and Rene Spencer of Brandon, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at the Gospel Light Temple Church with the Rev. Ron Day, the Rev. Bobby Carnley and the Rev. James Gay officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Rev. Reid will be moved to the church at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 where he will lie in state until funeral time.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Pritchett Jr., Johnathan Holland, Travis Holland, B.J. Reid, Dave Reid and Jeremy Pritchett. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Salter, Jake Merritt, Victor Rosales, Austin Reid and Jeremiah Jackson.
The family will accept flowers or donations can be made to the Wallace Reid Pastoral Memorial Fund. This fund will be used to construct a pastor’s office at Gospel Light Temple in memory of Rev. Wallace Reid. Please make checks payable to Gospel Light Temple Reid Memorial Fund.
