Catholic gets best of Chiefs

Despite a strong first-half performance, the Northview Chiefs were defeated 57-44 by the Pensacola Catholic Warriors in Pensacola on Saturday.
The Chiefs (0-7, 0-0) started the game slow and fell behind Catholic in the first quarter 21-14.
Chief forward Lance Bushaw was a playmaker for the Chiefs and led the team with 16 points. Bushaw also posted three steals, three assists and pulled down two rebounds for Northview.
Northview’s defense tightened up in the second quarter and held the Warriors to three points, and the Chiefs took the lead 26-24 at halftime.
Chiefs head coach Lorenzo Jones said the Chiefs defense in the second half locked down on the problems it faced in the first quarter.
After the half, it was all Catholic as the Warriors pulled out a huge lead in the third quarter outscoring the Chiefs 18-4. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 42-30.
Forward Colton Sims put up 11 points for Northview, while also pulling down six boards in the loss. Forward Luke Killam added seven points and two rebounds.
Jones said the Chiefs lost composure in the third quarter, and could not gain any ground once they fell behind.
The fourth quarter was back and forth between both teams, but in the end the third quarter scoring bonanza by Catholic proved to be the difference as the Warriors picked up the victory 57-44.
Guard Jody Levins scored four points in the loss, and recorded six rebounds. Forward Ladarion White also scored four points and pulled down three rebounds. Chiefs guard Wayne Marshall chipped in two points, two rebounds and one assist for Northview.
Jones said the Chiefs would just move forward from this game and prepare for their Christmas tournament in Jay, Fla.
The Chiefs played in the Jay Christmas tournament on Dec. 15 &16.

Lady Warriors 52
Lady Chiefs 31
Northview’s Lady Chiefs found it hard to stop the scoring attack presented by the Pensacola Catholic Lady Warriors losing 52-31 in Pensacola on Saturday.
Forward Angela Rodriguez led the Chiefs with 14 points, and pulled down one board for Northview in the loss.
Forward Gabe Wesley supported Rodriguez’s performance with nine points, while guard Lanecia Gomez scored five.
Lady Chiefs head coach Obreonne Parker-Smith said her team was out matched by the Catholic players.
Forward Shaniqua Jones scored four points for the Lady Chiefs against the Lady Warriors.
Parker-Smith said the Lady Chiefs are working to improve their game. She added they are looking better, but need to take better shots and improve their rebounding.
The Lady Chiefs participated in the Jay Christmas tournament in Jay, Fla. on Dec. 15 and 16.
