County to hold recycle event

The Escambia County Commission is taking steps to clean up the county.
County officials are making plans to a countywide recycling day for electronics disposal Feb. 21.

The recycling effort planned for February is part of the “Take Pride County Wide” recycling project being coordinated in Escambia County.
Residents in the Atmore, Brewton and Flomaton areas will have an opportunity
to dispose of electronic equipment including televisions, computers, printers, printer ink cartridges and similar items at no charge, Stokes said.
Stokes said a recycling facility based in Marianna, Fla., would be accepting
those recyclable televisions for a fee from the county.
The increase in need for recycling or otherwise disposing of televisions has come about due to a looming deadline for analog television use, Commissioner Larry White said.
