In continuation of their replanting efforts, the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce with support from the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development will be holding Trees for Atmore A Community Tree Recovery Program once again.
Williams said approximately 110 trees, both ornamental and hardwood, will be distributed to the community. The Chamber has been working since 2006 on replanting efforts for the area and has given away approximately 750 trees in the years since, not including what will be given this year.
Williams said this program serves not only to replace what has been lost, but to enliven the community.
The ornamental varieties of trees available are River Burch, Redbud and Dahoon Holly. Hardwoods available are Overcup, Nuttall, Swamp Chestnut, Chinquapin, Black Gum, Chinese Pastiche and a variety of Maple.
The trees are between 4 feet and 6 feet in height and will be in three-gallon containers.
People adopting the trees will have to attend an educational component to learn about care and maintenance of their tree before they sign an adoption agreement.
The trees will be available for adoption Thursday, Feb. 26 and Friday, Feb. 27, with the educational components to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and noon on Friday. Call the Chamber office at 368-3305 to reserve your tree.
