ATMORE - Mrs. Effie D. Jefferies, 85, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25 2009 at Atmore Nursing Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She had worked at Vanity Fair for several years and she was a member of Corinth Primitive Baptist Church
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard B. Jefferies, Garnet Johnson and Joe Robbins; parents, Andrew J. Mitchem, Catherine Stewart and step dad, T.C. Stewart; brothers, Wied Mitchem, Travis Mitchem and John D. Stewart; sisters, Evelyn (Elo) Smith and Willie Ratliff and a granddaughter, Deborah Ann Janes.
She is survived by one son, Joseph L. (Peggy) Jefferies and two daughters, Margaret (Dewey) Janes and Delois (James) Carver; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; four brothers, Hannis Mitchem, Andrew (Ander) Mitchem, L.C. Stewart and David Stewart; one sister, Lizzie Skipper.
Her body was donated to science with the hope that one day the cause and a cure for Alzheimer’s disease will be found.
