It is time for Advance readers to put on their thinking caps and begin preparing for The Hunt.
No, I’m not talking about Easter eggs, but the hunt for $1,000 in Pirate Bucks.
Today marks the first day of a weekly treasure hunt sponsored by the Advance that will last up to 13 weeks. It is our stimulus package with a twist.
Somewhere in Atmore a treasure chest has been hidden. I will not expand on how the treasure is hidden, just break out all the pirate movies you’ve seen and take notes on how “real” pirates bury their booty of gold and jewels.
This is how The Hunt works.
Each Wednesday, clue sheets will be released and available at the 16 sponsors who have partnered with the Advance. Over the weeks, the clues will get you closer and closer to the treasure.
The Official Sponsors include, Atmore Florist, Greenlawn Home Health, Main Street Florist, David’s Catfish House, First National Bank &Trust, Atmore Animal Hospital, No. 1 China Buffet, Pintoli’s Italian Cafe, Bargain Bin, Dean’s Grill, Securance Group, State Farm Insurance, Optical World, Diamond Oil, Hainje’s Furniture and Nichols &Cobb PC CPA.
Treasure seekers must visit the Official Sponsors to receive the clue. They will not be given over the phone by members of the Advance staff or on WNSI 105.9 FM, which will be giving a run down of the Official Sponsors on the air on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 5:28 p.m. and on Wednesday mornings at 8:40 a.m.
One key point of The Hunt is that the treasure will be located inside the Atmore city limits on public property.
Once the treasure is found, the chest, which contains a note declaring the winner, must be brought to the Advance’s office, located at 301 S. Main Street, to win $1,000 in Pirate Bucks, which can be redeemed for goods and services at any of the Official Sponsors. This guarantees that the money stays in Atmore. We at the Advance encourage the winner to “share the wealth” and spend their Pirate Bucks at most, if not all, the Official Sponsors. This creates a full circle of money being exchanged in our community.
Treat your wife to dinner and surprise her with roses, purchase new glasses, pay on a loan, shop for some groceries, fill-up your gas tank and buy a new piece of furniture.
We hope everyone will participate in The Hunt and enjoy it while doing so, but don’t get behind. Once the last clue is revealed, if you are not up to speed on previous clues, you’ll be beat to the treasure chest.
