The Escambia County High School boys’ basketball team evened its record to 5-5 with an 84-70 win over B.C. Rain in Mobile Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils benefited from the return of two key starters in Desmond Williams and Tyrell Ford, both of whom were out last week when Escambia County lost to B.C. Rain 52-46 at home.
Williams scored a team-high 22 points, while Ford added nine points, three steals and four assists. Fred Knight scored 20 and Tony McAroy had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the win.
Blue Devils’ coach Earlando Courtney said it was the team’s focus on ball movement that helped secure the win.
“We had gotten to a point where we weren’t passing the ball,” Courtney said. “Everyone was trying to drive to the basket. The past two games we’ve tried to focus on passing the ball more.”
The Blue Devils will now host the county tournament play Friday with an even record.
“No one likes a losing record,” Courtney said. “I wanted to get it back to .500 and move forward.”
ECHS opens tournament play at 7:30 Friday against W.S. Neal.
