Coming in the next week are several events that the community should do their best to take part in.
This weekend the United Fund’s Relay for Life is taking place on Saturday from 8 a.m. until midnight at Tom Byrne Park.
This is a huge event because of the focus that Relay for Life has. It’s important that funds be raised to help find a cure for cancer.
We all know someone who has been affected by the devastating effects of the illness no matter what type of cancer it is.
Over the last several months, a lot of businesses in the Atmore area have participated in the Relay for Life by sponsoring different events to help raise money for the organizations efforts.
If you get a chance on Saturday be sure to stop by and give your support at the huge event.
Next week marks the Atmore Lions Club Diabetes Awareness week.
The Lions Club is hosting two events to help put out the right information about diabetes.
On Tuesday, the Club is hosting a forum about the disease in cooperation for Baptist Health Center at Atmore Community Hospital.
At the forum Dr. Jonah McIntyre will be the guest to speak on the issue.
The next night is an event for avid NASCAR fans. Flomaton Speedway is going to have Kenny Wallace as its guest and a competitor in the modified class.
Wallace and Speedway owner Jimmy Goodwin have been in contact since the beginning of the year and have finally worked out a date for Wallace to come and race. It will be a great opportunity for some the hometown drivers around the area to show what they have against a driver who has raced at the highest level.
Friday night marks the end of the Lions Club’s Diabetes week with a Strides Diabetes Walk at Tom Byrne Park.
The walk begins at 6 p.m. and hopefully everyone will put the event on their calendar and at the very least walk one lap.
The next week is sure to be busy but looks to be fun at the same time.
