Trailing by one heading into the fifth inning, the Babe Ruth League's Apple Barrell scored one to tie and then another in the bottom of the sixth to pull out a victory against Greenlawn, 10-9, last week.
Greenlawn came out swinging in the top of the first. Owen Moore hit a one-out single and Matt Amerson followed with a walk. With two outs, Clay Cummings earned a walk. Cedric Sharp earned an RBI after being walked with the bases loaded. Greenlawn took a 3-0 advantage as Kyle Kirby laced a single.
Brian Strawbridge got things going in the bottom of the inning for Apple Barrell. After reaching on a single, he scored on another base hit by Michael Harrison to cut the lead to 3-1.
Greenlawn's Devin King scored in the second to make the score 4-1.
That lead did not last long as Apple Barrell batted around in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs. Derek Martin and Norris Brooks hit inside-the-park homeruns in the inning. Also scoring was Michael Harrison, Jordan Drew, Nick McGhee, Leslie Crueit and Strawbridge. When the dust had settled, Apple Barrell held an 8-4 advantage.
Greenlawn used the next two innings to get back in the game. In the third, Kevin Adair, Sharp and Trent Flowers scored, and in the fourth, Moore and Amerson scored to elevate Greenlawn to a 9-8 lead.
But, Apple Barrell had just enough offense left. Nick McGhee led off with a single in the eighth and scored on a base hit by Martin which tied the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Brooks won the game as he scored on a groundball after reaching on a single.
Martin, Drew and Strawbridge pitched for Apple Barrell. Amerson and Adair took the mound for Greenlawn.
Huddle House 12, Frontier 5
Huddle House scored at least one run in every inning as they earned a win against Frontier, 12-5.
Huddle House took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Michael Rolin and Craig Montel scored. Bruce Smith scored another run in the second.
In the top of the third, Huddle House took control of the game as Trevor Daughtry, Montel, Tyler Wilkins and Brandon Arnold scored to take a 7-0 lead.
Don Alexander scored another run in the fifth to take an eight-point lead.
Frontier came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jeremy McNeil and Josh Morgan both scored.
Montel added another run for Huddle House in the top of the fifth and then Alexander and Charles Daily scored in the sixth to make the score 11-2.
Rolin scored one run in the top of the seventh to complete the scoring for Huddle House.
Frontier managed three runs in the bottom of the seventh as Franklin Boykin, Chris Moore and Robert Hardy scored to cut the lead to 12-5. But, Frontier ran out of gas as the game ended with two groundballs.
Montel, Alexander and Daughtry took the mound for the Huddle House while Jeremy McNeil and Josh Morgan pitched for Frontier.
Frontier 5, Apple Barrell 2
Frontier had better luck against Apple Barrell as they earned a 5-2 victory.
Apple Barrel's Derek Martin led off the game and then gave his team a one-point advantage as he scored on a hit by Norris Brooks.
Frontier took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first as Franklin Boykin and Robert Hardy scored.
The score remained the same until the fourth when Oliver Petty hit a single and later scored on an error.
The score became 5-1 in the top of the fifth when Josh Morgan scored and Robert Hardy hit an inside-the-park homerun.
Brannon Sanspree brought Apple Barrell to within three after he scored in the fifth. But, they could not get anything going in the final inning as they went down in order.
Pepsi 8, Greenlawn 1
Greenlawn's Chris Andrews led off against Pepsi with a triple and then scored on a groundball by Devin King. That one run was all the offense they had as Pepsi shut them down the rest of the way to earn an 8-1 victory.
John Flowers led off for Pepsi and also scored to tie the game, 1-1.
Neither team scored until Pepsi got things going in the third with three runs by Thaddeus Richardson, Steven Shirley and J.R. Hall.
Richardson added another run in the fourth to make the score 5-1.
The scoring was completed as Miller McCaster, Dominique Lee and Chris Raines came around in the fifth.
Chris Graham earned a victory with four innings pitched and Steven Shirley finished the game for Pepsi.
Kevin Adair and Owen Moore took the mound for Greenlawn.
