The suspect that allegedly robbed First National Bank &Trust Tuesday afternoon at gunpoint has been identified as 30-year-old Chad Floyd Jeter of 12066 Hwy. 31 in Canoe.
Jeter is still on the loose and is armed with a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle. He was last seen wearing a navy blue baseball cap with possibly the New England Patriots’ emblem embroidered on it and a dark-colored, trench-style jacket. He fled the scene in what is believed to be an older model, white GMC pickup truck with "Steel City" written in orange and red on the tailgate. The truck has a black bumper as well as a cab-level camper shell with a portrait of a soldier saluting with faded reproductions of the same figure behind it on the side.
Atmore Public Safety Director Glenn Carlee urges anyone who may come in contact with Jeter to call authorities.
Carlee added that a search of Jeter’s mobile home Tuesday evening turned up several “threatening” letters.
Carlee said the robbery occurred at 3:34 p.m. when Jeter made entrance into the bank, placed a bag on the counter and demanded money from the tellers. Jeter fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
Jeter’s whereabouts is unknown. He left notes stating that he was upset with the military and left information behind that he may be headed to one or several military bases to kill there. He has also made statements that he would kill law enforcement agents.
It is also believed that he may be in a relationship with a female that resides in the Ft. Rucker area.
No one was injured during the robbery. The Atmore Police Department was assisted by numerous agencies including the FBI, the Poarch Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff’s offices in Alabama and Florida and the Alabama State Trooper’s Office.
Jeter is 5-foot-11-inches, and weighs 140 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Jeter is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
