AMMON, Idaho. - Glenna Mills Dyal Jernigan, 85, of Ammon, Idaho passed away June 9, 2009 at Life Care Center after a brief illness.
Glenna was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Uriah to Dahlonega Washington Dyal Jr. and Pearl Agnes Baggett Dyal. She lived in Semirah Springs for 18 years until she graduated from J.U. Blacksher High School in 1942. She lived in Fairhope for seven years and worked at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile during and after World War II.
Glenna married Robert Charles Jernigan Dec. 31, 1949 in Mobile where they lived for 47 years. She worked as a substitute teacher while her daughters were in school and also served on the PTA. Glenna was a real estate agent in Mobile after her daughters left home.
Glenna was known as a great hostess and entertainer. She loved to cook and fed many people from her kitchen. For 54 years, she sewed beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren.
Glenna moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1999 to be close to her daughters and grandchildren who adored her. She was generous with all she had. She loved gardening and during her last weeks of life, she told care workers how to get to her home so they could cut her beautiful flowers for a bouquet. She was poplar with her grandchildren for keeping current on sports trivia especially the Atlanta Braves and Alabama football.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served for 14 years as president of the Mobile Branch Primary. She also served as the relief society president for many years and her favorite calling was teaching for the 14-year-old Sunday school class. She taught youth in early morning seminary for several years and worked as a volunteer in the LDS family history center in Mobile. She loved the opportunity she had to volunteer in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Idaho Falls Temple.
Her husband, Robert; her parents and eight sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
She is survived by, her sister, Vyvyan Dyal Jordan of Montgomery; three daughters, Ann (Alan) Stephens of Ammon, Idaho, Jane Quist (Alan) McMurtrey of South Jordan, Utah and Sue (Dennis) Moss of Syracuse, Utah; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and two on the way. Visitation was held June 13, 2009 at the Ammon Idaho 15th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Petty Funeral Homes in Atmore. Burial will follow at the Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton.
