An Escambia County Blue Devil is now being courted by a future Division 1 football program that looks to hit the ground running this fall.
The University of South Alabama Jaguars have made a scholarship offer to junior Blue Devils quarterback Rico Stallworth after seeing highlight reels and witnessing his abilities at a 7-on-7 tournament at the USA campus in late June.
Stallworth, a dual-threat quarterback listed on Rivals.com, is going to be a third-year starter for the Blue Devils this season. In 2008, Stallworth completed 50 percent of his passes, while racking up 1,967 total yards and 12 touchdowns.
Blue Devils head coach Kyle Davis said its an honor for Stallworth as well as himself for the offer to be made.
Stallworth’s ability to be seen by the coaches at South Alabama extends into the coaching ranks and his coach’s contacts at the school.
Davis said his relationship with a couple of the coaches at USA gave him the chance to speak with them about his star quarterback.
With Stallworth still more than a year from graduation, he has the chance to garner even more attention from NCAA schools.
Davis said as long as the Blue Devils quarterback continues to stay focused the sky is the limit.
Davis also expects more players to receive offers from Division 1 schools including one of the starting offensive linemen.
