Rotary Club hosts 30th annual Fiddler’s Convention

Bows were being rosined and guitars and banjos tuned Saturday as fiddlers, banjo players, guitar pickers and more took the stage to compete in the 30th annual Fiddler’s Convention hosted by the Atmore Rotary Club.
Rotarian Keith Castleberry was the organizer of the event held at Rachel Patterson Elementary School and said the convention went well hosting a capacity crowd.
Castleberry said next year’s event is already slated for July 17. Besides a change of venue, the convention is usually held at Escambia County High School except this year and last, the Rotary Club will continue with the same format for the event.
The winners for the competition are as follows: bands: first place, Open Range and second place, Mick Norton; string bands: first place, Open Range, second place, The Bell Family and third place, Seminole Trio; dobro: first place, Steve Crain and second place, Robert Bell; banjo: first place, Winky Hicks; second place, Greg Youngblood and third place, Billy Brown; guitar: first place, Charlie Carter; second place, Chuck Eldar and third place, Patrick Lowery; mandolin: first place, Chuck Eldar, second place, Wayne Crain and third place, Peter McCartney; fiddle: first place, Adam Purvis, second place, Garrett Youngblood and third place W.G. Galbreath.
