Another year of learning kicked off Monday and Tuesday as area schools opened their classrooms back up and students were again roaming the halls as the 2009-10 school year began.
Escambia Academy was the first school to open its doors as they started bright and early Monday morning with some students returning and several new ones trying to learn their way around the school.
Headmaster Betty Warren said on Tuesday that the first day had gone well and the second was even better. She added that it was great to see so many faces especially the new ones.
Tuesday morning Escambia County Schools opened their 2009-10 session, as there were assemblies and orientations at all area schools.
Susan McKenzie, principal of Rachel Patterson Elementary School, said the first day started off strong and proved to have more parents excited about the upcoming school year.
At Escambia County Middle School, students were welcomed back to the campus by an excited principal Zickeyous Byrd who believes his faculty is even more excited.
Byrd said everyone was happy about school starting back up, and added his school possibly had an increase in enrollment.
The administrators and faculty at A.C. Moore were equally excited to have their students back in classrooms, and were ready to get them started on their education.
Principal David Nolin said all of the faculty and administrators were wearing their school shirts to bring some school spirit to the first day.
Down the road at Rachel Patterson, there are several goals that McKenzie spoke about.
She said that goals for improvement include everything from parents to test scores.
Escambia County High School also started their school year Tuesday morning, but principal Harvey Means could not be reached for comment.
