EA claws back

After trailing 8-0 after three innings, the Escambia Academy Cougars clawed back to win 15-9 Thursday against Patrician Academy at Clarke Prep.
The Cougars cleaned up their play late in the game after surrender runs on six errors in early innings.
EA stormed back offensively in the fourth inning with seven two-out hits in a row and nine runs.
“We really picked it up and hit the ball from the fourth on,” said coach Mickey Cannon.
The Cougars had a total of 15 hits in the win.
Pitcher Brett Gorum picked up the win after relieving Tristan McAnally in the third inning. Gorum only gave up a triple and one earned run in five innings. He had five strikeouts.
Brett Helton went 1-for-3 and drew three walks. McAnally went 2-for-6 with three RBIs and Nate Smith went 2-for-5 from the plate in the win.
Michael Thompson went 1-for-5 with three RBIs and Trey McGhee went 1-for-5 with one RBI.
Austin Ryan went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and J.P. Sawyer went 2-for-5 with four RBIs.
The Cougars play today as the tournament at Clarke Prep continues. EA plays Monroe Academy at 10 a.m. and Morengo Academy at 2:30.
