After bulldozing their way past Pickens Academy Friday night, the Escambia Academy Cougars recorded their first region win and moved into third place in their region.
The Cougars (3-2, 1-1) picked up the win after falling behind 14-0 in the first half.
With that win the Cougars now put themselves in prime position to have a chance at the AISA state playoffs following the regular season.
A win this week over region foe, the Wilcox Academy Wildcats would help the Cougars inch closer to those aspirations.
Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said his team could come away with a victory seeing their speed as advantage.
The Wildcats (2-3, 1-3) bring a run-based offense that includes their quarterback.
Gibson said their offense is tough to stop because the quarterback is talented and runs the ball well.
The Cougars will look to bring their running game again this week to help pick up a much-needed fourth win.
Gibson said sticking with what works should help the Cougars be successful. He added some new things could be added in practice.
The Cougars are trying to focus this week in practice to avoid any let downs, according to Gibson.
Gibson said working hard will be important if the Cougars want to win.
The Cougars and Wildcats kick off at Wilcox Academy Friday at 7 p.m.
