With one final game lying in their path, the Northview Chiefs will attempt to finish their 2009 football season with an 8-2 record, which would reverse their fortunes after last season’s 2-8 season.
Standing in the way of their eighth win are the West Florida High School of Advance Technology Jaguars (4-4, 2-2), who defeated the Chiefs 31-20 last season at Northview.
The Chiefs (7-2, 5-2) are hoping to secure the win, which would accomplish a huge goal for the end of the season.
Chiefs Head Coach Sid Wheatley said the Jaguars are an impressive team that could give the Chiefs a tough game.
Defensively, the Chiefs need to be prepared for a strong option attack with the Jaguars talented backfield.
Wheatley said watching the pitchman will be the key to stopping the option.
The Chiefs offense, which has been a force on the ground all season has opened up in the last few weeks airing the ball out some, while continuing to run the ball out of more formations.
Wheatley said the Chiefs will not do anything differently this week than they have done in the past.
Finishing the season with an 8-2 record would be a tremendous way to start Wheatley’s career at Northview.
He said winning this week would show how much effort everyone involved with the Chiefs has done to make this year a success.
The Chiefs and the Jaguars kickoff Friday night at 7 p.m. at West Florida High School.
