The Escambia County Sheriff's Office continues to hold DUI roadblock checkpoints as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign.
Three recent checkpoints have netted 112 tickets and 250 citations, according to Chief Deputy Major Mike Murphy.
Two checkpoints on June 23 targeted this end of the county.
The first checkpoint was held in Huxford at Highway 21 and County Road 30. The second was held in Atmore on Highway 31 at the Swift Mill Road intersection.
The following were issued by the ECSO from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.:
DUI n five citations;
seat belt n five citations, 13 warnings;
child restraint n one citation, two warnings;
drivers license violation n 22 citations, 26 warnings;
insurance violations n nine citations, 55 warnings;
felony warrants served n one;
misdemeanor warrants served n one;
drug cases (possession of marijuana) n three;
minor in possession of alcohol n three;
open container n seven citations, three warnings;
expired tag n two citations, one warning;
no tag n three warnings;
obstructed windshield n five warnings;
equipment violation n 11 warnings;
mutilated license n one warning;
The total was 59 citations and 120 warnings.
The most recent checkpoint was held Friday, July 6, at Highway 29 and County Road 4 (eastern end of the county) and Highway 41 and County Road 55 (near Riverview in eastern part of the county).
The following were issued by the ECSO from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.:
DUI n two citations;
seat belt n 10 citations, eight warnings;
child restraint n one citation, one warning;
speeding n one citation, one warning;
drivers license violation n 15 citations, 19 warnings;
insurance violations n 14 citations, 71 warnings;
drug cases n two citations;
other n eight citations, 31 warnings.
The total was 53 citations and 130 warnings.
Click It or Ticket is part of a special federal grant awarded to the sheriff's office to pay deputies overtime to work after their normal duty hours. The emphasis of the program is seat belt and child restraint usage.
