A 19-point effort from Cedric Pierce could not save the Escambia County Blue Devils from suffering their first loss of the season as they fell 57-48 to the Monroe County Tigers Monday night at Escambia County High School.
The Blue Devils (1-1, 0-0) were unable to execute effectively on offense or defense to hold the Tigers from gaining an advantage during thse second and third quarters.
Blue Devils Head Coach Tim Moorer said his team did a poor job of getting things down on either end of the court.
The Blue Devils came out strong in the first quarter scoring 15 points with Pierce scoring 13 of the 15 with Lawrence Arnold adding the other two points.
Arnold finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds and one block in the loss.
Monroe County took advantage of a cold second quarter for the Blue Devils outscoring them 14-7 to take a 26-22 lead into halftime.
After halftime, the Tigers continue to pull away by scoring 21 points to the Blue Devils’ 16.
The Blue Devils were able to hold the Tigers to a 10-10 tie in the fourth quarter, but could not overcome the nine-point deficit to win the game.
Moorer said missed opportunties hurt his team thorughout the game.
Other Blue Devils recording stats in the game included Dalvin Craft with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals and Rayvon Madison with three point, three assists and two steals.
The Blue Devils next game is Friday at home against Baldwin County High School.

Atmore’s Blue Devils started the season on a high note as they opened with a 59-52 win over the Flomaton Hurricanes Friday night in Flomaton.
The Blue Devils (1-0, 0-0) put up points all night as they had two players in double-digits and seven players scoring points overall in the win.
Blue Devils Head Coach Tim Moorer said the team started slow, but got better in every quarter.
Dalvin Craft led the Blue Devils to victory with 18 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
