The Northview Chiefs’ baseball team beat district foe Chipley 10-6 to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in the district.
Pitcher Kevin Vaughan started but got no decision after throwing four and one third innings. Winston Riley relieved him, going three and a third with one hit, two walks and four strikeouts in the win.
The game was tied six runs each going into the fifth inning when Thomas Moore hit a pinch-hit single that started a rally that resulted in four runs, said coach Martin Lister.
“We hit a little bit better,” Lister said. “We didn’t pitch well and the defense wasn’t good.”
Chad Smith went two-for-three with three runs scored and Chasen Freeman went one-for-two with a run scored, an RBI and two sacrifices.
Vaughan went two-of-four with two runs scored and two RBIs, Brannon Freeman went three-for-four with a double, triple, two runs scored and an RBI. He was a home run away from the cycle.
David Burkett went one-for-four in the win. Daulton Thomas went two-for-four.
The Chiefs travel to Crestview for a game Wednesday.
