The Lady Cougars of Canoe picked up their fourth win of the season Monday night with a convincing 45-31 win over the Meadowivew Lady Trojans in Selma.
The Lady Cougars (4-1, 0-0) overwhelmed Meadowview from the opening tipoff to the final buzzer.
Lady Cougars junior forward Amber Huskey led the Academy in the win by scoring 15 points, pulling down nine rebounds, stealing six passes, blocking a shot and dishing out an assist.
In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars ran away from the Lady Trojans by outscoring them 13-4.
They followed up that performance by adding 13 more points before halftime and only allowing Meaodwview to score 11 as they took a 26-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After halftime, Huskey along with senior center Jordan Jaye and senior guard Kay Leigh Miller again poured 13 points onto the Lady Trojans, while only giving up eight.
Jaye scored nine points in the win with eight rebounds and three steals, while Miller added six points with four steals, three assists and three rebounds.
In the final quarter, the Lady Cougars were outscored by Meadowview 8-6, but it was not enough to overcome the massive lead that the Lady Cougars had mounted.
With the final buzzer, Escambia Academy left Selma with its fourth win of the season.
Other Cougars adding to the scoring were guard Grayson Emmons who scored five points to go with two steals, two assists and one rebound and senior guard Kristen Matthews who added four points along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Lady Cougars next game is Thursday night at Central Christian. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.

Clarke Prep 43
Escambia Academy’s Lady Cougars crushed the Clarke Prep Lady Gators 69-43 Saturday in Grove Hill.
The Lady Cougars (3-1, 0-0) rolled over the Lady Gators by outscoring them in every quarter.
Leading the way for the Lady Cougars was guard Grayson Emmons who poured 16 points into the winning effort , while also recording two steals, one assist and one rebound.
In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars put 15 points on the scoreboard with Clarke Prep keeping it as close as they could by scoring 13 of their own.
Escambia Academy took control of the game in the second period outscoring the Lady Gators 12-7 to head into the locker room with a 27-20 lead.
After halftime, Emmons along with Amber Huskey, Kristen Matthews and Jordan Jaye turned the second half of the game into a nightmare for the home team.
Huskey, a junior foward, fell one rebound and two steals short of a triple-double scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebound and eight steals. She also had two blocks and two steals.
Matthews, a junior guard, added 10 points in the win to go with three steals, two assists and two rebounds.
Jaye, a senior center, fell two rebounds short of a double-double with 10 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
The Lady Cougars ran away with the momentum and the game in the third quarter scoring 21 points to the Gators’ 10 to pull ahead 48-30 heading to the final period of play.
In the final quarter, the Lady Cougars again blasted Clarke Prep for 21 points and only gave up 13 to smother the Lady Gators 69-43 in their third victory of the season.
Lady Cougars senior guard Kay Leigh Miller finished the win with five points, six steals, four assists and four rebounds.
As a team, the Lady Cougars finished the game 6-for-13 from the charity stripe.

Rocky Bayou 26
A trip to Niceville, Fla. ended with a dominant 47-26 win over the Rocky Bayou Christian Knights for the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars on Dec. 1.
The Lady Cougars crushed the Lady Knights to pick up their second win of the season.
Lady Cougars junior forward Amber Huskey paved the way for the Cougars win as she scored a team-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds, eight steals, three blocks and one assist.
In the first quarter, the Lady Knights kept close to the Lady Cougars only allowing them to score 10 points, while the home team scored nine.
The game remained close with the Lady Cougars again outscoring Rocky Bayou by one point with them adding eight points to the Lady Knights seven. At halftime, the Lady Cougars nursed an 18-16 lead.
After halftime, the Lady Cougars blew the Lady Knights out of the water outscoring them 21-2 in the third quarter to quickly end any hopes for the home team.
Supporting Huskey and the Lady Cougars in the high-scoring quarter was junior forward Taylor Helton who scored 12 points, while pulling down six boards, stealing five passes, dishing out two assists and blocking a shot.
In the final quarter, the Lady Cougars and Lady Knights played to an 8-8 tie to give the Escambia Academy a 21-point win on the road in Florida.
Lady Cougars adding to the scoring included senior center Jordan Jaye with six points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals; junior guard Rachel Fuller with four points, two rebounds and two steals and senior guard Kay Leigh Miller with four points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists.
As a team, the Lady Cougars shot 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

Clarke Prep JV 18
The junior varsity Lady Cougars of Canoe destroyed the Lady Gators of Clarke Prep 41-18 on Dec. 1 in Grove Hill.
The Lady Cougars (2-1, 0-0) had control of the game from beginning to end never allowing the Lady Gators to get close.
Lady Cougars guard Grayson Emmons led the way with 18 po ints, five rebounds, five steals and three assists in the win.
Escambia Academy started out w ith the lead outscoring the Lady Gators 8-4 in the first quarter.
It was much of the same in the second period as the Lady Cougars again outscored Clarke Prep this time 10-5 to end the half with a 18-9 lead.
After halftime, the Lady Cougars dominated the third quarter out scoring the Lady Gators 19-3 with several Cougars getting in on the action.
Lady Cougar Lacie Flowers scored10 points to go with six steals, four assists and four rebounds.
Allie Brooks added six points, eight rebounds, one assist in the win.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Gators put up six points on the Academy and only allowed four to end the game 41-18 in favor of the Lady Cougars.
Other Cougars getting in on the action included Lulu McGhee with five points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist, while Page Lancaster added two points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Cougars next game is Thursday at Central Christian. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
