Christmas is almost here. Just 12 more shopping days until Santa Claus hops into his big red sleigh to bring all the little children around the world gifts and happiness.
This has always been one of my favorite times of year, but the reason why changed with every year that I got older.
As a young child, it was a time when I received a lot of gifts like Hot Wheels, superhero figurines and other fun games.
As I grew into a teenager, Christmas became important because it was time away from school and homework. It was also still about the gifts that I would be getting, but the gifts changed into video games and from video games to stuff for my truck.
When I got to college, Christmas was more than just a time for gifts. It was still great being away from classes, but it became much more important to me that I see my family and going to Alabama’s bowl games.
Family has always been a huge part of my life because we are always there for one another. Things get rough sometimes, but we are still family and we always stick with each other.
As I realized how important family was I also noticed the people that were there and the people who were not there whether it be they had passed on or they had to miss it for another reason.
Those people make Christmas what it is too because you still care and miss them and remember the impact they had or still have on your life.
Christmas is more than the cool new game that was sitting under the tree or the brand new set of wheels you received for your car or truck.
It’s about spending time with your family and knowing that those times are always going to be the best of your life.
So take this Christmas to spend with the ones you love. If you have to take a step back and think what your life might be like without them because I can tell you it would not be the same.
