The Escambia Academy Cougars’ baseball team moved into a tie for second place in the area with a 3-2 win Friday over Fort Dale Academy in Greenville.
The team secured a spot in the playoffs with the win and will battle Fort Dale again Friday to determine who gets the second seed in the tournament.
The Cougars overcame a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to win. Michael Thompson pitched a complete game, gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four in the win.
The Cougars got five hits in all, including the game winner by Brett Helton. J.P. Sawyer, Tristan McAnally, Nate Smith and Brett Gorum also got hits.
The win and a 20-0 drubbing of Atmore Christian School Monday moves EA to 13-9 on the season. They will play either Kingwood Christian or Bessemer Academy in the first round of the AISA tournament.
