State Troopers issue winter driving tips

With frigid weather conditions hitting the state hard over the past several days, the Alabama State Troopers Office have issued a statement encouraging motorists to take extreme caution when on the roads.
If ever in need of assistance or in the event of an emergency dial *HP (*47).
The Troopers have also listed tips for motorists to ensure safer travel:
– Keep gas tank at least half full.
– Check antifreeze levels and use windshield wiper fluid suitable for freezing conditions.
– Keep blankets, a first-aid kit and other emergency supplies in your vehicle.
– Adapt speed to existing road conditions and keep a safe distance between your vehicle and other motorists.
– If stranded:
o Give nearest landmark or last known landmark.
o Turn on emergency flashers and raise hood.
o Give road name or last known road.
