Friday marks the return of the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars to the AISA state playoffs in Montgomery at Huntingdon College.
They open up their run to a state title with a matchup against the Autauga Academy Lady Generals at noon.
According to head coach Heath Gibson, the Lady Generals and Lady Cougars should be a great game to see.
The teams look to matchup evenly in player matchups as well as style of play.
It should be a great game for the fans that are able to make the trip up to Montgomery to watch.
The Lady Cougars are poised to make a run at a state championship this season with the talent-level of their players being top tier.
Over the weekend, the put up a strong push for the regional tournament, but fell short to one of the only region opponents to get a win over them this season, the Pickens Academy Lady Pirates.
If they are able to defeat the Lady Generals, the Lady Cougars will face the winner of the Lakeside/Marengo Academy game.
The semifinals matchup will be tough regardless of who the Lady Cougars play, but hopefully they can get a big semifinal win.
Should the Lady Cougars push through the first two rounds of the tournament and into the final game, then there is a good chance they could meet the Lady Pirates again.
With so many games against Pickens this season, the Lady Cougars could find something to use to their advantage to win the state championship.
Regardless of who they play, the Lady Cougars have a tough road ahead of them in their quest for a state championship.
The good thing about coach Gibson’s team is they always play hard and are willing to fight for that rebound or second shot attempt.
They never give up and as their record shows are rarely beaten.
If they can muster one of the 70 or 80 point offensive performances like they have, then they have a good shot at going all the way.
Cougar fans start preparing for the trip to Huntingdon and try to be in Montgomery for the AISA state playoffs.
