With just over two months of planning time, organizers for the Atmore Relay for Life event are busy gathering teams and asking for donations.
Julie Ray, chairwoman for 2010 event, said some teams have already made commitments with more teams being formed.
The theme for Relay is “Cancer Is No Parade” with special events leading up to Relay at Tom Byrne Park.
Ray said the parade is set to begin at noon on Relay day.
The 12-hour Relay event will kick off with a survivors luncheon at the First United Methodist Church located at the intersection of Pensacola Avenue and Horner Street.
Plans are still being finalized on activities planned for the day, Ray said.
Ray said the fundraising goal for the event is $65,000 with teams responsible for raising most of the funds.
Since the event is still in the planning and organization stages, Ray said there is time for anyone interested in forming a team to sign up for the event.
Ray said team packets are available through her with information provided by any committee member. Team captains or anyone interested in forming a team is invited to attend the Feb. 18 team captains meeting.
