Interviews for the vacant head football coach’s position at Escambia County High School will begin next week, school officials said Friday.
According to Principal Harvey Means, a six-person hiring committee, school administrators including himself and personnel from the Escambia County Board of Education in Brewton will interview 10 applicants that he said were chosen from a pool of 45-50 applicants from “all over the country.”
Former head coach and athletic director Kyle Davis was relieved of his duties on Dec. 18, 2009 just before Christmas break. For the past two months, the school has been without an athletic director, but Means hopes that will change soon.
Means said his plan is to have a recommendation from the selection committee next week, when he also plans to present his recommendation to the school board at the monthly meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. on Feb. 25 at Pollard-McCall Junior High School.
The ultimate goal is for the new football coach to serve as the athletic director, but again, Mean said it depends on the interviews.
