Officers with Atmore Police Department and the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force have released a man they detained as a suspect in an armed robbery that took place Tuesday afternoon at a home on Fourth Avenue.
Agent Scott Walden said the victim of the robbery reported a white male who approached him on foot and brandished a weapon, stealing his wallet and cell phone. According to information from the Atmore Police Department, the suspect, who was approximately 5’10, 175 pounds and between the ages of 19 and 25, entered the home at 207 Fourth Avenue, where he robbed the victim and fled through a side door, heading east on foot.
Walden said the suspect told agents he is from Kentucky and was detained yards away from a home he claimed to be staying in on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Horner Street.
“Another man inside the home said he has been staying there,” Walden said.
Walden said the man’s clothing was a partial match to what the victim described, leading investigators to suspect he had changed inside the home, but a further search led to no evidence he was involved in the robbery. Walden added the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Alabama Department of Corrections K9 Tracking Team was contacted, police said. Upon responding the K9 units picked up the track in the yard but soon lost the scent.
Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of anyone involved in the robbery is asked to contact Atmore Police Department at (251) 368-9141.
