The Atmore Fire Department responded to call about a house fire at 103 Beck St. at approximately 3:40 p.m. Monday afternoon.
According to witnesses at the scene, it looked like an unidentified person had set the fire in the backyard of the house owned by Claude Watson Jr. and his family.
Watson said he and his wife were in the house watching television when his children told him about the fire. He added he does not know why anyone would want to start a fire.
"We were in side watching TV when the kids came running in and said the house was on fire," he said. "I have no idea why anyone would set a fire in our yard."
A state fire marshal will report to the scene to further investigate the cause of the fire.
