Being Homecoming Queen has more privileges than getting to wear a pretty dress on a float and Whitney Johnson is living proving this true.
Johnson received an invitation from officials with America’s Homecoming Queen. Inc., to participate in a competition pegged to select Alabama’s Homecoming Queen.
Johnson, who is the first Homecoming Queen in the family, said her family’s support is important to her.
The competition, set for March 27 and 28 in Birmingham, will feature young ladies from across the state that have also served as Homecoming Queen in their respective counties.
Johnson may be hard to beat in the competition that involves an interview as well as poise and appearance judging. Her list of accomplishments proves her ability to wow judges in a variety of competitions with a resume that includes being a graduate of the Barbizon School of Modeling.
If being beautiful and poised isn’t enough to bring the judges around, her academic honors may be what wins them over.
Currently Johnson is involved in National Honor Society as secretary and is enrolled in all honors classes at Escambia County High School. She is also taking dual-enrollment classes through Jefferson Davis Community College.
Being invited to participate in the pageant is something Johnson said she is looking forward to.
Scholarships will come in handy for Johnson who aspires to be a cardiologist some day.
Social activities are also a big part of Johnson’s life through activities in the community and at her church.
If Johnson advances to the national competition, she will receive an expense paid trip to compete with queens from other states for America’s Homecoming Queen. That competition will be held later this year in Anaheim, Calif.
America’s Homecoming Queen, Inc., is a non-profit organization promoting education, educational travel and community service in all 50 states.
