Huskey makes All-State

Following a 20-7 season where the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars fought their way to the Elite Eight of the AISA playoffs in Montgomery, one Escambia Academy Lady Cougar has been honored with the designation of being named a member of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s All-State Team for the AISA.
Amber Huskey, a junior at Escambia Academy, was selected as a member of the second team for her performance during the 2009-10 basketball season.
During the season, Huskey averaged a double-double posting 15.5 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game.
Huskey said that she was excited to be named to the All-State Team.
With her play improved during her junior year, Huskey also saw an improvement in how her team performed.
The junior forward said it seemed like team worked better this year than last season.
As for her own performance, Huskey said she thought she did more to help her team this year and played harder than she did before.
She also said the chance to play on varsity in her freshman and sophomore seasons helped her improve.
With her team falling out in the first round of the playoffs, Huskey said she hopes for better success next season.
She said would like to finish her career a champion.
