Players from six local softball teams braved the elements Saturday to help raise $1,500 for NWE Football and Cheerleading.

The money will be used for field upgrades, concession stand renovations, helmets and pads, said board member Patrick Boone.

“It was pretty good,” Boone said about the tournament. “Rain put a damper on things.”

Boone said the weather conditions resulted in about a two-hour delay. He said storms passed through about 11 a.m. after “a couple of games” had been completed.

“It ended up being great,” he said. “We’re going to try to make it an annual event hopefully.”

Team Extreme, out of Century, won the event and took home t-shirts. A team made up of seniors from Northview High School placed second.

Boone said registration for the league has been successful with enough kids to make up each age-group team. Teams average about 16 members each, he said.
