Northview head coach Sid Wheatley said his team is going back to focusing on fundamental football, after a 47-18 loss Friday night at the hands of the Chipley Tigers.

Wheatley said bad snaps and basic mistakes were his team’s undoing, adding, “we’re just better than this.”

Despite two touchdown throws from quarterback Daulton Tullis, who went 19-of-33 passing for over 200 yards, and a 13-carry, 74-yard performance form running back Ladarius Thomas, the Chiefs could not overcome their mistakes.

“We put ourselves in some very bad situations,” Wheatley said. “We probably had 130 negative yards just on errant snaps. We kind of got what we deserved.”

Tullis also tossed two interceptions in the Chiefs’ loss and Wheatley said those sort of mistakes can be rectified in the film room.

“When we were able to get the ball in the quarterback’s hands consistently, we did well,” Wheatley said. “We had a chance to do a lot of things offensively, but you’re not going to have success when you’re making those kind of mistakes.”

The Chiefs get a bye week before facing Choctawhatchee at home on Friday, Sept. 27 and Wheatley said that extra time would be spent focusing on fundamentals.

“We’re not going to be concerned with an opponent,” he said. “We’re going to be working on Northview.”

Wheatley said his team would have to improve on both sides of the ball in the coming weeks.

“We’re going to really, really try to play aggressively on offense and be more fundamental defensively and just try to be more sound.”

The Chiefs will meet the Choctawhatchee Indians in two weeks at home in Bratt, Fla. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
