Renovations on the Tom Byrne Park Pool are ongoing with the work to be completed in time for the pool’s scheduled opening day on June 1.
The work, which was approved by the Atmore City Council on March 22, was awarded to Cox Pool Services with a bid of $75, 850.
In an interview after the approval, Atmore Mayor Howard Shell spoke on how badly the work has been needed, and added work on the pool at Houston Avery Park could come as well.
The need for the work came from several problems the employees had at the pool with keeping water clean.
Pool Manager Betty Warren said in March that the repairs are to be made on the return lines, which have been leaking and also the inside of the pool.
As of now, Cox Pool Services is preparing to start plastering on the pool.
Melvin Middleton said the work on the pool has been going as well as planned.
With the work going smoothly, the pool is expected to open on its set start date, which is the day after Memorial Day.
Middleton said that there was hope the work would be done by the beginning of next month.
The work being done has drawn praise from those that oversee the pool.
Warren said she has not been able to see the work, but heard that it looks good.
