NWE Eagles bite Bulldogs

The Northwest Escambia Eagles’ football teams swept Uriah in home games, including a thrilling overtime win for the freshman team.
The Eagles broke Uriah’s freshman undefeated record with a 31-25 overtime victory Saturday.
Zyonne Wesley led the way with five rushing touchdowns. Liam Hatcher, Jackson Simmons and Wesley all had positive rushing yards.
Wesley, Simmons, Easton Odom, Jackson Bridges and Bryce Stabler led the defense late in the game.
The win puts NWE in a tie with Uriah for first place in the Western Division of the Escambia River Conference. Both have a record of 3-1.
The sophomores remain 4-0 after a 42-6 win over Uriah.
T.J. Wright scored three touchdowns. Kaden Odom scored two. Nolin Godwin and Travis Scott each scored one.
Extra points were scored by Aiden Broadhead, Wright, Godwin and Arquavian Smith.
Luke Bridges and Nathan Chavers made big stops on defense, while Braedwn McGhee and Smith recovered fumbles.
The juniors beat Uriah 40-6 in a game Saturday.
Jayden Jackson scored two touchdowns, while Jacob Lee, Logan Bryan and Jaden Cunningham scored a touchdown each.
Michael Merchant, Dariontae Richardson, Jamarkus Jefferson and Jaheem Durant all converted extra points. Travis Nelson, Jaxon Singleton, Tanner Boone, Chase Cloud, Levi Kirkpatrick and Cody Thomas all had positive rushing yards.
Tyler Cloud, Keaundre Richardson made big plays on defense, while Jackson intercepted a pass and ran it back for a 40-yard touchdown. Juniors also remain undefeated.
The NWE seniors won their game 45-0.
Aunterio Minor, Trent Kite and Keaton Solomonson scored rushing touchdowns. Seth Killam and Cameron Cloud each threw touchdown passes to Jay Helton, Kite and Solomonson.
Tyrese Smith had nearly 50 yards rushing in the win. Johnathan Windham had a fumbler recover and four sacks.
Cody Edwards and Trent Peebles both made stops in the backfield. The win put the senior team at 4-0.
NWE will travel to take on Excel on Saturday. The juniors’ game has been named the ERC game of the week because the winner will take the top spot in the Western Division.
