Jefferson Davis Community College president Dr. Dan Bain was apparently escorted from the Brewton campus and placed on administrative leave Tuesday morning, according to officials.
David O’Brien, counsel for the Alabama Community College System, confirmed that JDCC has an acting president, Camille Cochrane, but could give no other information about the transition.
“Beyond that, we don’t have any comment,” O’Brien said.
Also apparently relieved of her duties at JDCC was director of human resources Veronica McKinney, according to sources.
McKinney and Bain also appear to have been removed from the college’s online directory.
Sources with the college said Bain would be on leave while an “investigation” continues.
Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin confirmed that his police officers were asked to stand by while Bain and McKinney were escorted from campus, but he said that to his knowledge there was not a criminal investigation.
“They had no other law enforcement with them,” he said.
Bain arrived at JDCC in January 2012, a year after former president Dr. Susan McBride retired. Bain previously served as president of Independence Community College in Kansas.
Cochrane was most recently the special assistant to the president of Shelton State Community College, although she had also been “on loan” to the community colleges chancellor in a role of special assistant, reviewing policies and guidelines, according to minutes from the March meeting of the trustees of the Alabama Community College System.
