The Atmore Christian School basketball team is looking to rebound from a 7-16 season and hopes to use a bit more experience to do it.

Coach Tim Battles expects his team to play tougher this year after the Rams “kind of ended on a downer.”

“It was a rough last week of the season,” Battles said, of the end of last year. “Played four games and could’ve gone 2-2, but instead went 0-4 and showed some of our immaturity. It was a sour way to end the season.”

Last year’s squad had one senior, who was playing his first year of basketball. This year, that young team is mostly returning and has more experience.

“We have three of our five starters back and have one transfer from Escambia County,” Battles said.

The Rams’ starters are Christian Scott, Ethan Heller, Myles Maher, Wesley Hostetter and the transfer, Joseph Ferrell.

He said the team was working really hard and listening very well.

“We should have some pretty good improvement,” Battles said. “I’m looking to develop a bench this year.”

The varsity team consists of nine players this season. The junior varsity team will have 12 players, Battles said.

The Rams have a tentatively scheduled home game against Escambia Academy slated for Thursday, Nov. 12, at 4:30 p.m.
