There will be a public meeting Thursday in McDavid, to discuss the future of the Florida town’s post office.
The McDavid Post Office has been targeted by the U.S. Postal Service for possible cutbacks or closure. A public meeting will be Thursday at 5 p.m., at the McDavid United Methodist Church, located at 2 Main St. in McDavid. No decision about the post office’s future will be announced until the completion of that meeting.
There are several possible options for the future of the post office, including:
• Keeping the office open, with window hours cut from eight hours per day to six hours per day.
• Closing the office and providing only roadside mailbox delivery.
• Closing the office and finding a contract post office location, such as a local business. This location would provide post office boxes and most retail services.
• Closing the office and relocating post office box service to another nearby post office.
