The rainy weather might have forced Escambia County High School to move its commencement ceremony indoors, but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the members of the graduating Class of 2014.

One-hundred eight seniors received their diplomas Friday night at Hodnette Auditorium, as family members and friends cheered and celebrated in the full auditorium.

State Sen. Marc Keahey was the guest speaker for the night, and proved a point to the graduates when he crumpled up and stepped on a $20 bill, and then asked if any student still wanted the money. When everyone nodded yes, he pointed out that money has value no matter what happens to it.

“There will be times when it’s tough and you’ll wake up in the morning and you won’t feel like going on,” he said. “But no matter what might happen to you, each and every one of you still have value, and you always will.”

Annah Nichols was the class valedictorian, and Tristen Boothe was the salutatorian.
