Mrs. Verna Duck Turk passed away on June 14, 2014.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, L. Marshall Turk; her parents, Robert S. Duck Sr. and Alice J. Duck; and her great-grandson, Patrick Ryan Burkette, as well as her five siblings.

She is survived by her children, Sara Turk Woods, Barbara D. Turk and Robert “Bob” Marshall (Carolyn) Turk; five grandchildren, Susanne Woods (John) Sirmon, Blair Woods (Mark) Burkette and Marshall Robert (Sabrina) Woods, Brandy Turk (Chris) Fehr and Courtney B. Turk; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her friend and loving caregiver, Lucy DuBose.

Mrs. Turk was born and raised in Bay Minette and attended Huntington College in Montgomery.
Her family was very active in the civic life of Baldwin County. She was the daughter of the honorable Robert S. Duck Sr. and the Honorable Alice J. Duck, each of whom served many years as Clerk of the Circuit Court of Baldwin County.

Her brother, John V. Duck served as city judge, attorney and mayor pro-tem of Fairhope. Her brother, Fulton S. Duck, served as a member of the Bay Minette City Council for 16 years. Her sister, Betty Jean Pelt and brother-in-law, Dr. Roland Pelt was instrumental in the growth of Josephine.

Mrs. Turk worked as office administrator in the Baldwin County Clerk of the Circuit Court offices and as bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Turk’s Auto Service. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert S. Duck Jr. of Loxley and Thomas M. Duck of Birmingham.

She was a founding member of the Gladys Chapman Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church of Atmore, a Daughter of the Eastern Star, a DAR member and a member of The Cosmopolitan Club of Mobile. She was an accomplished crafter and quilter who taught for many years. She and her family spent many happy summers at the beach and traveling the country with friends. She lived a long and active life surrounded by those she loved. Her presence will be missed.

A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore, with the Rev. Diane Everette officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
