Mr. John Edward Allen Williams, 70, of Atmore, entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile.

A native of Atmore, Mr. Allen Williams was a graduate of Escambia County Training School Class of 1963. He was a member of the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church where he had served as a Trustee, the church clerk, a layman, and a member of the NBC. He is a graduate of Jefferson Davis Community College and Alabama State University, with degrees in Business Management and Economics.

He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U. S. Army. While in the Army, he received the Air Medal, The Bronze Star Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal while being a member of the 1st Calvary Division.

He worked in education at Southern Normal School in Brewton, Escambia County Middle School, and Jefferson Davis Community College (Holman Prison). With over 27 years of service, he retired in 2003.

Mr. Allen Williams other involvements included working at Singleton’s Cleaners, the Flamingo Terrace Night Club, the Atmore Family Life Center where he was the bookkeeper, the United Fund of Atmore, secretary of ECTS Class of 1963, and serving as a baseball manager (with Deacon America).

He was the business manager for the Atmore Area Male Chorus, financial secretary for Eureka Masonic Lodge #953, life member of Kappa Alpha Psi (Atmore Alumni Chapter), financial secretary of the Royal Arch Masons, the 9th Temple Masons, Heroines of Jericho, and was a member of the AEA and the NEA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosetta Allen; his father, Robert Williams and his grandmother, Alberta Womack.

Those left to celebrate his life and legacy are two sisters, Barbara O’Cain of Mobile and Mary Ethel Bolden of Atmore; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Homegoing service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. at the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaac Williams, eulogist, and the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, officiant and host pastor.

Inhumation with military honors will be in the Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic Rites being held Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

His body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until funeral service time at the church, with professional services entrusted to Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC.
