An Atmore teenager was badly hurt in a crash that later led to the death of a Molino, Fla., teenager, Friday near Molino.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), 16-year-old Brayden W. Hubbard of Atmore experienced serious injuries when his 2011 Hyundai Sonata was involved in a crash with another vehicle at 4:05 p.m., at the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 (Florida State Route 95) and Florida State Route 97.
Hubbard was transported by Escambia County EMS to Sacred Heart Hospital.

His passenger, 16-year-old Darion Riley of Molino, experienced critical injuries, and was transported by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital. Both Hubbard and Riley are students at Northview High School.

The FHP reported that Riley died at Sacred Heart Hospital on Tuesday, as a result of her injuries.

The driver in the other vehicle, 51-year-old Jeffery Nolen of Century, Fla., and a 9-year-old boy who was Nolen’s passenger, sustained minor injuries. They were transported by Lifeguard to Sacred Heart.

According to the FHP report, Hubbard’s Sonata was stopped in the parking lot exit of the Tom Thumb near the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and State Route 97. Hubbard traveled east into the median into the intersection and stopped facing east in the median break. Hubbard’s view was blocked by stopped traffic in the northbound left turn lane.

Hubbard’s vehicle then accelerated east into the northbound turn lane of U.S. Highway 29. The front of Nolen’s 2012 Ford F-250 struck the right side of Hubbard’s Sonata, pushing it in a northeast direction.

The Sonata came to rest facing east on the northeast shoulder at the intersection, and the F-250 came to rest facing north against the right side of the Sonata.

According to the report, Riley was not wearing a seat belt, but the other three victims in the crash were.
