Escambia Academy defensive lineman Garrett Kirk was one of three finalists recently named for the Lineman of the Year award in the AISA.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association selects three linemen and three backs from each of the seven AHSAA classifications and the AISA. The overall winners, along with the winner of the Mr. Football award, will be announced at the annual Player of the Year Banquet, to be held in Montgomery on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Kirk also contributed on offense and special teams for the Cougars, who won the AISA Class AAA championship in November. The senior was EA’s starting tight end and punter during the 2014 season.
Kirk finished with four receptions for 16 yards during the season, and also scored two 2-point conversions.
During the state championship game against Bessemer Academy, Kirk had four punts for 124 yards, or a 31-yard average.
The other nominees for AISA Lineman of the Year are Monroe Academy offensive lineman Trey Carter and Restoration Academy defensive lineman Tim Collins.
The nominees for AISA Back of the Year are Edgewood Academy running back Josh Crawford, Bessemer Academy quarterback P.J. Garrett and Autauga Academy running back Eric Graham.
