Freddy Leon Mooney

Freddy Leon Mooney, 83, of Oak Grove, Fla., passed away Tuesday April 7, 2015, in Pensacola, Fla.

He was retired after 40 years of service with International Paper Company, born in Oak Grove on April 19, 1931, to the late Everette H. and Emily Odie Godwin Mooney. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid farmer and had owned and operated the Davisville Country Market.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Joan René Milstead Mooney; and siblings, Margarite McNair, Junior Mooney, Clarence “Punken” Mooney, Patsy Beasley and Bill Mooney.

Survivors are a special companion of 11 years, Betty Mooney of Oak Grove; one son, Eddie (Eunice) Mooney of Oak Grove; three daughters, Teresa (the late Mike) Etheridge of Walnut Hill, Fla., Tina (Frankie) Marsh and Teelya Whitehead, all of Oak Grove; one sister, Peggy (Elvin) Pugh of Oak Grove; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Butch Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Leslie Mooney, Casey Mooney, Michael Etheridge Jr., Harrison Whitehead, Brannon Whitehead, Bradley Whitehead and Kyle Bazzelle.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of all arrangements.
